Australia’s Christmas Island and Cocos-keeling Islands Indian Ocean

TREKKING THE ISLES EXOTIC

Australia’s newest walking destination.

For years, birders and nature enthusiasts have been visiting these two islands.  We now offer an exceptional, world class walking experience.  Our walks are planned to an easy & moderate standard with alternative routes for those seeking more exploration and challenge, whilst providing an opportunity to learn about a new environment, unlike anywhere else on the planet.

Christmas Island is an Australian Territory located in the Indian Ocean some 2,600km north east of Perth.  One of the world’s last large islands to be populated, 63% of the island is national park with a delicate ecosystem, home to numerous species of flora and fauna found nowhere elsewhere on Earth.  Best known for its Red Crab migration, its known by many as the ‘Galapagos of the Indian Ocean’.

Christmas Island has no comparison to any other island and certainly nothing like anything else you have experienced in Australia.  The top of an undersea volcano rising 2000 metres from the ocean floor, the island’s plateau is covered in pristine and ancient rainforests and surrounded by untouched coral reef.   This is a place of jaw dropping beauty and what Sir David Attenborough calls a ‘must see’ destination and ranks it as one of his top 10 nature experiences of all time.

The Cocos-keeling Islands consist of two atolls and twenty-seven coral islands. There is virtually no tourism on these islands resulting in a location that is light years away from reality.  Imagine the Maldives decades ago before the tourists arrived! Despite the flat terrain Cocos has four excellent walks: The Atoll Walk, Ferdinand Walk, North Keeling and Home Island.

The islands provide diversity in their bushwalking experiences and a place to experience something new.  We provide a complete walking track package including three airfares, accommodation, guiding, vehicles, fuel, evening meals as well as inter-island boat transport.

The weather is warm all year round and never hot due to its maritime environment.  All our walks are day walks as there is no overnight national park trail accommodation yet available.  We traverse the jungle clad plateau, rainforest terraces, coastal sea cliffs and remote beaches along tracks that give you the opportunity to interact with the crabs and the islands amazing birdlife. The island’s unique wildlife, including birds and robber crabs – the world's largest invertebrate – have almost no fear of humans and can be easily approached. The result is a heart stopping walking experience set in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

Walk somewhere none of your friends have walked.
